Power of Community

Next Tuesday Feb 24, from 6-8pm, at the Puyallup Library

Free movie showing:
The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil
with discussion to follow.

"With imports of oil cut by more than half – and food by 80 percent – people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people during this difficult time. Cubans share how they transitioned from a highly
mechanized, industrial agricultural system to one using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens."

*February Update*

1) Thank you all for the *great* event that happened on Jan. 29th!
If you have any ideas about what continuing event you'd like to
see on the 23rd, e
mail them to puyallup@riseup.net

2) Opportunities to learn about Permaculture! (polycultures, food forests, restoration, appropriate tech, and more!) We hosted one free movie showing at Beyond the Bridge Cafe, there's a handful more scheduled throughout the county. Sepp Holzer, Austrian permaculturist will be giving a lecture and two workshops in Pierce County!! More info click here.

3)We're participating in this year's Celtic Faire, March 14. Kelda will be
able to coordinate that in March

4)Also, we've been asked to participate at a community discussion at the
Mel Korum YMCA on March 13 & 14. It's put on by the group Healthy Pierce (If something
doesn't coalesce for the 23rd, we may just shift our energy here).

5)We may be applying for a small grant to build a bulletin board by the
Riverwalk/Skatepark. That application is due mid-March.More later on that,
from Chris.
